What results of a Pap Smear indicate the need for a biopsy instead of a repeat Pap or other testing?

If you’ve been invected with HPV, or if there is an abnormality in the cells on your cervix. They just take a biopsy to determine the level of abnormality and decide how to treat it from there.

Edit: Who gave me thumbs down!? I answered from personal experience and the fact I worked in the gynaecological field!

If your pap comes back abnormal they may opt to do another pap in six months, or a biopsy. They will usually ask you which you want to do. When it the test comes out abnormal you can do either, i think it is the same result for both but you have the option to get a biopsy if you or your doctor feels it is necessary. You can have an abnormal pap if you have never had sex, an abnormal pap could just mean your body and hormones are fluctuating. When i started taking a birth control i had an abnormal pap but the next one came back normal.
