Is impetigo another name for staph?

By Madam Skin • December 11, 2009 • Filed in: Impetigo

They both appear to list a same symptoms as well as home treatment. Are they dual opposite infections or is it a same infection with some-more than a single name?

No. Impetigo is the disease while Staph aureus and/or Strep pyogenes are the bacterial causes.

Impetigo is a skin infection that is caused by staphlococcus bacteria. So they are one in the same.

Impetigo is a superficial bacterial skin infection most common among children 2 to 6 years old. People who play close contact sports such as rugby, American football and wrestling are also susceptible, regardless of age.

Basically, they’re not the same thing.

Impetigo is mainly caused by Staphylococcus aureus, which is the main cause for MRSA (Staph).

Impetigo is also commonly caused by Streptococcus pyogenes, which is what causes Step Throat.

Don’t really know what I’m talking about hear, kinda blabbin on :) .

But I hope I helped:)
