Why? (in the UK) did us kids only get “German Measles” ? ?

When I was very young, I was sick with German Measles & Three Day measles. The German Measles were also known as "Old Fashioned Measles." You may not have known where Germany was but Germany knew where the U.K. was. Now, weren’t you special? ~LOL~
We didn’t only get German Measles, we got ‘ordinary’ measles too, and very nasty it was too, much worst than the German variety!
I got Chicken Pox, never went near a damn chicken though…

‘German Measles’ is what we used to call Rubella. It is similar to ‘Measles’.
"Rubella, commonly known as German measles, is a disease caused by Rubella virus. The name is derived from the Latin, meaning little red. Rubella is also known as German measles because the disease was first described by German physicians in the mid-eighteenth century."
Nowadays most people are immunised against both.
I had German measles, but of course, I’m German. . . Where the heck did the mumps come from? ?
It’s a blessing of course to get German measles at a young age. It can be dangerous to get it later on, especially for pregnant women. It was first diagnosed in Germany, hence the name.
Had both types of measles & chickenpox.Glad we had the polio ’sugarcube’ & the TB ‘daisy’ test!

Hello, This is a story told to us at our home. Because of the bomb damage buildings made a great play area but was regarded as a dangerous environment they "the wardens" would know who disobeyed orders as they will catch German Measles from the bombs dropped by the Germans. So when we caught the Measles we blamed it on the "bloody Germans" Never did stop us though Ha Ha Ha
That’s a good question and I don’t know why they called it that!! But I’ve had them and wondered the same thing because I hadn’t been around any germans!!!

oh to be so lucky
Because" they have means of making us get them"achtung.
Had both varieties during the war
We used to check spots very carefully because the spots from German Measles were in the shape of swastikas
I never found any but I was assured that I had them
Good question here in the USA we got German measles also along with every other kind of measles. The worst thing I had was whooping cough when 15 they didn’t have booster shots back than I had had wc vaccination but you need a booster after 10 yrs.
I went for the hat trick. I had measles, german measles, mumps and chicken pox. I did escape scarlet fever though, unless most of my friends.
I had the real ones and was of school for about 5 weeks. it can be very nasty and even fatal if not properly treated. In comparison german measles is a doddle but pregnant women should avoid coming into contact with it if at all possible because it can cause deformities up to about 13 weeks

When I was in my 30s my kids got German Measles and I had not had it as a kid so I caught it. they were running about having a good time and I was in bed with only one ambition; to die. It is really bad when you get it as an adult so if one child gets it it is good idea for any others to get it as well.
